The Fontchauvaux Holiday Gites site is a beautiful property consisting of just two very private,
secluded holiday homes set either side of a barn with peaceful natural gardens.
The owners accommodation is a more recent conversion,
discreetly situated beneath the barn in the centre of the property.

Honeysuckle House is west facing and benefits from the

sun most of the day and evening.

This is the original house to the property, therefore it is a proper house,

not your average gite as we know it.

Violets Cottage has been completely renovated in a modern style including

new double glazed doors and windows.

It has been sympathetically modernised to blend with the original stone walls, wooden floors and beamed ceiling.

This cottage faces north west and has the sun in the afternoon and evening.

This is the most secluded and private of the two holiday homes.

Each evening you will witness, right in front of you,

the most amazing sunsets across the valley eventually, fading behind

outstanding views of the countryside and the hamlet of Saint Julien Le Petit.

At night the stars are truly magical

as we have no light pollution.

Each gite has its own garden and

we also have a large shared garden where you will find additional garden furniture

 and also the Jacuzzi/Hot Tub.

The large main garden is mostly laid to lawn, edged by shady trees and dry stone walls.

Wonderfully natural with stunning views and any time of day you can choose to be in the sunshine or the shade depending where you place your sun-lounger.

Our gardens extend to around 2.5 acres and we have yet to completely tame some of it.

We have had a little more time now, after renovating the gites, and are working hard

to make what was an over-grown wooded area into an area to walk and sit for a while,

to take in the views and hear the peaceful sound of water

from the natural spring that flows across our land.

Below the main garden we have a large field and sometimes our local farmer brings his cows and their calves or his beautiful horse and donkey to graze here.

They are very friendly and love you to go and pet them and feed them the odd carrot or apple!

We also have a resident deer family, mum, dad and two babies,

who can sometimes be seen in the field hiding among the ferns or taking a drink from the River Maulde that runs along the foot of the land.

Our New Stained Glass Studio.

We now have our Stained Glass Studio set up in the former porcherie (piggery).
We invite any of our guests booking for the 2025 season to join me (Karen) for an afternoon or morning
(approx. 2 hrs.) demonstration of this fascinating craft (free of charge) sometime during your stay.
I will give a taster session of the copper foil method of making projects with stained glass.
This is the method used to make the original Tiffany Lampshades.

Please let us know when making your booking for the accommodation if you would like to take up this offer of a free demonstration.

If you decide you would like to have a go making something yourselves we can arrange a few hours to do this on another day.
The session would include approx. 3 hours tuition, use of tools and all materials to make a small project
to take home with you at an inclusive cost of €70 per person and 35€ for each additional person in the same group.

Please let us know when making your booking for the accommodation if you would like to take up this offer of a mornings tuition.

Honeysuckle House
Honeysuckle House  sleeps four plus baby in cot. We also welcome well behaved dogs.
The house has everything and more to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.
This lovely home used to be the main house to the whole of the Fontchauvaux property before the sous sol under the barn was created to make a private owners suite. Therefore it is a proper family house not just a small gite.
Honeysuckle House could easily accommodate more people but we believe privacy and space to relax are more important. No flop out sofa beds in the lounge here!

The house has a cosy separate lounge with a new modern wood-burner, luxurious carpeting and flat screen television.
Well equipped kitchen diner with electric cooker with induction hob and oven, large fridge freezer, microwave, full size dishwasher and a washing machine.
Pine table and chairs for four people. Plenty of room for the highchair if you need it for a baby or small child.
Quality Denby crockery, cutlery, glasses and all the necessary equipment to produce a gourmet meal if you wish.
A modern downstairs bathroom provides a shower, toilet, sink, cupboards and a heated towel rail.
Upstairs there are the two good sized bedrooms one with double aspect windows and a king-size four poster bed,
the other has two single beds and fitted wardrobes.
Either bedroom has plenty of room for the baby cot if required. The full sized cot has a mattress and mattress cover but
you will need to bring your own bedding.  Just let us know before your stay if you need the cot and we will make sure it is
ready and available for you along with the highchair if required. (No extra charge for these items).
Throughout the accommodation there are quality soft furnishings and matching furniture.
Besides the wood burner in the lounge (logs supplied for a small charge) each room has, individually controlled,
modern ceramic electric wall heaters.
The exposed stonework, beams and original woodblock flooring give this lovely house a homely, traditional feel.

Honeysuckle House has its own private entrance and garden with barbecue and outside furniture - two sun-loungers,
four chairs, table and sun umberella. The garden has a patio for the table and chairs and a small lawned area and with,
of course, the honeysuckle growing along the fence.
During the summer months Honeysuckle House benefits from the sunshine most of the day and evening.
Outside parking for your car/s is available. Storage can be made available for bikes in our secure barn.
If you are bringing your dog, be warned, the garden is not securely fenced - you may then wish to consider booking
Violets Cottage instead if available as it does have a completely fenced garden with gate to the drive (height approx 3'6").

Violets Cottage
Violets Cottage accommodates four guests plus baby in cot. We also welcome well behaved dogs.
This beautiful home has been sympathetically refurbished in a modern style to blend with the charm and character of the
rustic walls, wooden flooring and beamed ceilings.
It has the most spectacular views of all, is secluded and private with its own entrance, driveway, patio and garden.
Violets Cottage could sleep more people but this is not what we are about. We believe the more discerning guest appreciates the seclusion and relaxation of the cottage without it being too crowded. No flop out sofa beds in the lounge here!

Through the double doors you enter into the spacious open plan lounge/diner/kitchen. The rustic walls and wooden floors with beams above give this lovely room charm and character in abundance. The view is to die for from this airy light room.
It has comfortable, modern furniture with coordinating soft furnishings, a flat screen television. To keep you warm on chillier days it has a newly installed modern wood-burner (logs supplied for a small charge) and individually controlled electric wall heaters in all rooms. All doors and windows have been recently replaced with new double glazing.
The kitchen is well equipped with an all electric cooker with four burner ceramic hob and oven, full size dishwasher, microwave/grill, fridge with ice-box, separate freezer and all the necessary crockery, glasses and utensils. It also has a convenient breakfast bar and two stools.
Up the spiral staircase are the two bedrooms.
The main bedroom has a double bed and looks out onto the most fantastic scene of the countryside.
The second bedroom has twin beds and is a lovely peaceful room that looks out at the woods where quite often you will see
deer, pine martins and squirrels passing through the trees.
The spacious upper entrance and hallway is a multi-purpose room. Again with a view across the valley, it has a comfy chair with coffee table. A great peaceful place to sit and relax or to get online if you need to. A desk, chair and extra lighting can be added to this space if required.
Also here you will find the washing machine and somewhere for your coats and shoes.
If you have a baby with you and require a cot there is plenty of space in this area to accommodate it, or it
can also comfortably fit into the main bedroom. The full size cot has a mattress but you will need to bring your own bedding. Just let us know before your stay if you need the cot and we will make sure it is ready and available for you. We also have a highchair if you need it. (No extra charge for cot and highchair).
Off the hallway is the shower room with sink, toilet and electric towel rail. Shelving is provided for spare towels and bedding.

Outside Violets Cottage you have a fenced garden and a gate leading to the drive and a patio from the main doors.
A shady awning extends over the patio area when you need it. So whether it is too hot or we get the odd rain shower you can still sit out and enjoy a meal or a glass of wine.
The garden is completely fenced (appox. 3'6" height) if you are bringing your dog. It also has a lockable storage room where
the garden furniture - a table, four chairs and two sun loungers and barbecue are kept, but there is also plenty of room for your bikes if you bring them with you - this is a great area for cycling as long as you don't mind some challenging hills!

Gite Facilities.

Garden furniture - tables, chairs, sun-loungers and barbecues available to use in each gite garden plus more furniture and the Jacuzzi/Hot Tub

in the large shared main garden.

All gardens have outstanding views across the valley to Saint Julien Le Petit.

Each of the two gites are not over-looked and very private, particularly

Violets Cottage.

Cot with mattress (bedding not supplied) and highchair for baby

can be made available for no extra charge.

Bed linen and towels included, no extra charge.

Owners available discreetly on site (intercom. system operates between accommodations).

Dogs Welcome.  Free of charge. You are welcome to bring up to two well behaved dogs depending on breed and size. Please contact us before booking to make sure it is ok. We love dogs and have a dog and a cat of our own but it needs to be remembered that not all guests like dogs, especially noisy out of control ones. Not all gardens are secure (best gite to book with dogs is Violets Cottage as the garden is fenced to 1 meter.) There are great walks right on the doorstep. Please bring their own bedding, towels and food bowls. Dogs must be cleared up after, are not allowed on the furniture and cannot be left alone in the gites. We may be able to dog sit for short periods.

Please note - We have found that our holiday homes site is very tucked into the hills and gets little wind. Therefore smoking in the gardens has become a problem to other guests who do not smoke or have children. Smoke drifts into gardens and particularly the accommodations when they have doors and windows open. For this reason we have decided to make the whole of the Fontchauvaux site (in accommodations and all gardens) a no smoking site for the comfort of all our guests.

Please note - We do not charge holiday guests for electricity unless the usage is excessive. We take a meter reading at the beginning and at the end of your stay. If the reading amounts to an average more than 5€ per night during your stay the additional will be charged to you at the cost price.

Unfortunately electric or hybrid cars cannot be charged at our site because it overloads our power system.

What's on Your Doorstep and the Surrounding Area.

The beautiful Haute Vienne - the Lake District with beaches and sunshine!

The spectacular setting of these beautiful holiday homes is breath-taking. Nestling into the hillside the views from all windows and the gardens are stunning.

If peace and quiet with just the sounds of bird-song and gentle tumbling water from the natural spring that flows across the garden and down to the river below is what you require Fontchauvaux is the place for you.

On the doorstep wild life abounds in the surrounding countryside and woodlands.

See deer, badgers, fox, black squirrels, pine martins and spectacular birds of prey soaring

high up in the thermals.

A profusion of wild flowers in the woodland glades.

Within a short drive you can be in the pretty market towns and historic villages that the Limousin is renowned for.

Visit the lakes, take a boat trip, sunbathe on the beaches, swim, fish, play a round of golf or take a leisurely lunch or dinner in a gourmet restaurant.

The choice is yours!

Facts about the Hamlet of Fontchauvaux in the Commune of Saint Julien Le Petit.

For your holiday we know you will be needing a well earned break from your normal every day lives.

Here in the seclusion of the countryside you can relax and be further away from it all.

Both of our holiday homes are spacious, completely separate and private with their own entrances and gardens.

The Limousin is in Europe’s top three cleanest air locations.

The density of its population is on average twenty five inhabitants per square km.

The average number of inhabitants in the commune of Saint Julien Le Petit is nine people per sq. km.

In comparison, in Paris there are 20755 inhabitants per square km.

In the Uk there are approximately 400 inhabitants per square km and in London, almost 5,000 inhabitants per square km.

Fontchauvaux has only three houses!

Our gite site is set on it's own with the other two neighbouring houses way off in the distance down the lane!

During our time here (six years now) we walk our dog twice a day in the woods that we back on to

and for miles around the commune of Saint Julien Le Petit.

In those years we have only come across in the woods one person walking a dog

and a couple of other people walking on their own.

So this should give you some idea of the seclusion you will find here.

We certainly feel there is nowhere in the world that we would rather have been during the pandemic.
