Honeysuckle House is west facing and benefits from the
sun most of the day and evening.
This is the original house to the property, therefore it is a proper house,
not your average gite as we know it.
Violets Cottage has been completely renovated in a modern style including
new double glazed doors and windows.
It has been sympathetically modernised to blend with the original stone walls, wooden floors and beamed ceiling.
This cottage faces north west and has the sun in the afternoon and evening.
This is the most secluded and private of the two holiday homes.
Each evening you will witness, right in front of you,
the most amazing sunsets across the valley, eventually fading behind stunning
views of the countryside and the hamlet of Saint Julien Le Petit.
At night the stars are truly magical
as we have no light pollution.
Each gite has its own garden and
we also have a large shared garden where you will find additional garden furniture
and also the Jacuzzi/Hot Tub.
The large main garden is mostly laid to lawn, edged by shady trees and dry stone walls.
Wonderfully natural with stunning views and any time of day you can choose to be in the sunshine or the shade depending where you place your sun-lounger.
Our gardens extend to around 2.5 acres and we have yet to completely tame some of it.
We have had a little more time now, after renovating the gites, and are working hard
to make what was an over-grown wooded area into an area to walk and sit for a while,
to take in the views and hear the peaceful sound of water
from the natural spring that flows across our land.
Below the main garden we have a large field and sometimes our local farmer brings his cows and their calves or his beautiful horse and donkey to graze here.
They are very friendly and love you to go and pet them and feed them the odd carrot or apple!
We also have a resident deer family, mum, dad and two babies,
who can sometimes be seen in the field hiding among the ferns or taking a drink from the River Maulde that runs along the foot of the land.
Kitchen
Gite Facilities.
Garden furniture - tables, chairs, sun-loungers and barbecues available to use in each gite garden plus more furniture and the Jacuzzi/Hot Tub
in the large shared main garden.
All gardens have outstanding views across the valley to Saint Julien Le Petit.
Each of the two gites are not over-looked and very private, particularly
Violets Cottage.
Cot with mattress (bedding not supplied) and highchair for baby
can be made available for no extra charge.
Bed linen and towels included, no extra charge.
Owners available discreetly on site (intercom. system operates between accommodations).
Dogs Welcome. Free of charge. You are welcome to bring up to two well behaved dogs depending on breed and size. Please contact us before booking to make sure it is ok. We love dogs and have a dog and a cat of our own but it needs to be remembered that not all guests like dogs, especially noisy out of control ones. Not all gardens are secure (best gite to book with dogs is Violets Cottage as the garden is fenced to 1 meter.) There are great walks right on the doorstep. Please bring their own bedding, towels and food bowls. Dogs must be cleared up after, are not allowed on the furniture and cannot be left alone in the gites. We may be able to dog sit for short periods.
Please note - We have found that our holiday homes site is very tucked into the hills and gets little wind. Therefore smoking in the gardens has become a problem to other guests who do not smoke or have children. Smoke drifts into gardens and particularly the accommodations when they have doors and windows open. For this reason we have decided to make the whole of the Fontchauvaux site (in accommodations and all gardens) a no smoking site for the comfort of all our guests.
Please note - We do not charge holiday guests for electricity unless the usage is excessive. We take a meter reading at the beginning and at the end of your stay. If the reading amounts to an average more than 5€ per night during your stay the additional will be charged to you at the cost price.
Unfortunately electric or hybrid cars cannot be charged at our site because it overloads our power system.

The spectacular setting of these beautiful holiday homes is breath-taking. Nestling into the hillside the views from all windows and the gardens are stunning.

Facts about the Hamlet of Fontchauvaux in the Commune of Saint Julien Le Petit.
For your holiday we know you will be needing a well earned break from your normal every day lives.
Here in the seclusion of the countryside you can relax and be further away from it all.
Both of our holiday homes are spacious, completely separate and private with their own entrances and gardens.
The Limousin is in Europe’s top three cleanest air locations.
The density of its population is on average twenty five inhabitants per square km.
The average number of inhabitants in the commune of Saint Julien Le Petit is nine people per sq. km.
In comparison, in Paris there are 20755 inhabitants per square km.
In the Uk there are approximately 400 inhabitants per square km and in London, almost 5,000 inhabitants per square km.
Fontchauvaux has only three houses!
Our gite site is set on it's own with the other two neighbouring houses way off in the distance down the lane!
During our time here (six years now) we walk our dog twice a day in the woods that we back on to
and for miles around the commune of Saint Julien Le Petit.
In those years we have only come across in the woods one person walking a dog
and a couple of other people walking on their own.
So this should give you some idea of the seclusion you will find here.
We certainly feel there is nowhere in the world that we would rather have been during the pandemic.
